umm b it anything but in the end i'm really surprisd to c Sonia being unanimously being selected for PM. guess its a combination of all the things...fact tht a country of billions indians led by a foreigner, fact tht shes as inexperienced in politics as i am in space walking, n the fact tht she really doesnt seem to give a damn abt india actually. saw commetn frm Simon Sar that sed..."show me a single issue (except ayodhya, hehe) that NDA can take up to its own credit without tracing the origin to Congress". Now of course congress has been in power since the independance and i'm not talkin abt others but i can tht atleast my quality of life has changed for the better(by wotever amount). So the NDA goevernment for me ultimately did something tht was not done in the past 45-50 years. Hence I see some truth in their claims for development. wot say u?
PS: i voted for Jagmohan(BJP) :)

Hi...

Yes, I am sad to see a good guy like Atalji go...

And I totally endorse your line of thought. If folks saw the post mortem of Elections 2004 on NDTV 24/7, they'd know, that according to statistics, the common junta did NOT vote the BJP out per se. What did the BJP in were their alliances, AIADMK, TDP, Trinamool Congress, and the likes (Narendra Modi in Gujrat...now he is a guy who desreves to be beaten with clubs in beech bazaar!) who could not turn the mandates in their favour. THAT brought the numbers down.

NOT the India Shining Campaign, not the hardliners, not the attacks on Sonia...

That also goes to prove that India has not voted Sonia in...or the Congress. India voted - against TDP in AP coz he was a techno savvy CM, too long in power (9 years!), and totally out of touch with the masses. They voted out SM Krishna.....anti incumbency.

And they voted in new blood, younsters like Sachin Pilot, Milind Deora, Scindia, unfortunately all of whom are Congress candidates.....

All said and done, the next time I tell you (12 hours before counting starts) who the next PM will be, please take me seriously instead of continuing with your ostrich act and blaming it on a certain product made by Mohan Meakins that all of us were fully focussed on at the time. And yes, I wish that we had staked a lot more than the piddly C note that we finally did on the outcome - would have enabled me to make up my stock market losses a bit ! But hey, a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks. Keep sulking.

Deepan: I dont expect everyone to support BJP...far from it. I respect anyone who supports ANY PARTY as it leads to a healthy democracy. And as for my "poor illiterate villagers" statement, some facts - Delhi had 49% turnout, Yamuna Pushta had 100%, Mumbai had 50%, Dharavi had 97%... the educated class simply does not go and vote, with some notable exceptions.

Priya: Let Laloo become the DPM cum Defence Minister that he's slated to become... then we will talk!!

Simon: I am surprised at the tone of your comments!! Thats all I can say!! Still, for the sake of our nation, I hope what I say and believe is wrong...

Tomsingh: Our problem is we did not go out and vote... lets promise we will vote next time, which will be soon, I suspect!

Ravages: Abhishek Singhvi is another one...

W-Bug: True... and did you see the reaction of an Italian from Sonia's birthtown? He said something like, "wonder if any foreigner could ever become the mayor here"!

Queer: They will fight, sure... but the cowards that they are, they will keep their trap shut in public. If fortunately someone like Manmohan Singh ends up in the chair, everyone else will strive to pull the carpet from under it...

Woooh LORD! What's the matter with you Ranjan? You write like a child who is lost and terrified now that you can't hold on to Modi chacha's pinkie!!!
How dare you insult the collective vote of an entire nation? How dare you insult the grace of Vajpayee who has accepted this mandate by your cheap pot shots at an indian national(Yes Mrs Gandhi is an Indian national) and your even cheaper (albeit bitter) predictions for the future.
It is this kind of arrogance and blatant malice that the BJP and its ideological partners have sown in the minds of our populace....
Pls wash your mouth and head with soap or some ganga jal ( which ever you think will be more effective) and I expect edits to this post!

actually ranjan... i really wish you wouldn't have said this...
"An Italian-born au-pair..."...
thats not good reasoning... and smacks of arrogance and provocation...
a reason has its own merit... respect that...

tom singh..

deepan has so kindly enunciated a few names that should get you thinking hard and better... think again when you say pramod and sushma... even i can tell you better examples in bjp/nda... exactly what makes you think congress does not have able leaders? i don't understand people's narrow-mindedness... you are willing to vote for bjp based on just one person, vajpayee, and are content to live with all the cronies he comes bundled with... BUT, you will not accept sonia (potentially as the prime minister) and choose to ignore the set of very able ministers that they have fielded in the past... my friend, at the end of the day it is not a single person (neither atal, not sonia) that rules the country... thats why I am quite impressed by the way sonia gandhi has handled the questions regarding the eventual leadership so far... and yes, I will be surprised if she chooses to become the pm... but lets see...

kindly go back and look at atal's record... please do... he's not even half the man he is made out to be.. hes at best a consolation in the bjp... the right man in the wrong place... thats how he has been described and thats how he will always be described... a man is always known by the company he keeps...

and your last bit.. "the BJPs foundation is hindutva - but i believe majority of their leaders dont give a damn about it. they r progressionist. it's petty politics which forces them to scratch their heads about these matters.".... what exactly are you pointing out here my friend? have you got entangled in your own reasoning? please clarify... i am most curious...

Ranjan da: we obviously didnt vote for the same party :)
Having said i dont think SP will be part of the coalition. It will be the Left Front and Congress and LF has some very comptent people in it. Also BSP is out of it after all she had to say about Sonia.
You also forget a certain P. Chidambaram and between Manhoman and Chidambaram we have the best financial minds in the government. You also forget that in the NDA there was a desperate pitch by the RSS to make M M Joshi as finance minister!!
I have been a proud Indian ever since i can remember and this government did test this pride - Gujarat and Staines are only 2 examples.
You talk of poor illiterate villagers- but the fact of the matter is that BJP has won just one seat in Delhi and Mumbai so obviously the urban suave voter has also rejected the BJP and India Shinning. Delhi itself had 3 cabinet ministers being shown the door.
This is a government which patronised Modi and continued to defend him inspite of the SC telling the govt exactly what it thougt of it. I respect Vajpayee as a statesman and i have followed his career and I am also sad to see him go.. But I am certainly not going to support a party which harbours Modis in its midst.
As for good guys in politics, the last one is on his way out...

ahhaa !! another election discussion!! lemme comment :D

BJP lost becoz majority of the voters didnt feel the "shine". can congress provide that?? i'm really apprehensive about that!! (i remember - mite b wrong - but congress talked about reservations in the private sector - is this the way it wanna make india shine??!!).
with the Left now as strong as ever - making radical changes will b diff.

biggest prob - for economics to act takes time. but people live in the present!!!

and SIMON - OMG !!! "atal, jaswant, pramod, shourie, sushma" combine is ANY DAY better than "sonia, amar, laloo (#@%^@#), mayawati" combine..!!! we r not talking whose the best- we r talking about whose better !!!

and sonia ...if she becomes PM then it'll d the failure of democracy !! not becoz she's a firangi - but becoz she's a total novice. she hasnt held a SINGLE ministry till date!! and looks at atal's record. he dates back to nehru (who used to revere him!!!).

the BJPs foundation is hindutva - but i believe majority of their leaders dont give a damn about it. they r progressionist. it's petty politics which forces them to scratch their heads about these matters.

'elevated India's image in the neighbourhood'
at the cost of tibetan goodwill... and backslapping cricketing ties... oppurtunists is a term that comes to my mind.. what makes you think Congress is averse to the idea?

'made us proud to be Indians"...
really?... with a poster boy as obscene as narendra modi?...
someone said, "If the only way you can accept an assertion is by faith, then you are conceding that it can’t be taken on its own merits"... i'd rather not rely on bjp and thier cronies (and for that matter congress) to make me feel proud to be an indian...

'creating infrastructure has a long gestation period but slogans give immediate results'
and sir, by saying that you hve undone your own premise... show me a single issue (except ayodhya, hehe) that NDA can take up to its own credit without tracing the origin to Congress... my dear friend if anyone fought this election on slogans it was BJP and definitely not Congress... those shameless creature have made a mockery of india shining... yes, creating anything substantial takes time... that holds true for Congress too... atleast give them that much of a credit...

your description of sonia gandhi smacks of misplaced nationalism... at the end of the day, she was the one who gave the most reponsible statements.. yes, i will be surprised if she goes on to become the PM... lets see..
btw, i am curious... what exceptional personalities have you uncovered in the NDA combine that you'd rather have in place of "Sonia, Amar Singh, Laloo Yadav, Mayawati and their like"... i am most curious...

i have marked your words... lets see...

Oh crap....don't talk abt it, I am practically fuming here!!! We should all be proud that we are so freaking tolerant and submissive that we are having cara sonia...my foot! Trust me, I just hope my trust in congress wins, and as usual they fight and sonia does not become the PM. Manmohan Singh did not comment on sonia becoming the PM.

My BJP oriented family is practically in mourning today.... sheesh I'm gonna miss the old guy, Atal. Just can't get used to the idea of an Italian PM in a country of a billion Indians.
