THERE !! You got the longest ever comment in history B-). What's the brouhaha over anyway ?? I go with what Zapgod says. You cannot generalize. I've seen wommin do it in my workplace too. But look at it this way. You had a female boss. Who doesn't wear mini skirts. And her garter belt is a simple figment of your overactive highly agitated imaginashun. Then ?? Who bats eyelids ?? Who praises when least necessary ?? Who claims to all and sundry that we live in modern times where the boss is sexless ?? Huh ?? I just realised something. I frikkin' commented on your post. I will comment no more. I will comment no more. I will comment no more. I will comment no more. I will comment no more. Go figure. And don't generalize ;-). | ||
| Twilight Fairy January 14, 2004 04:44 PM PST CRAP! if you find urself 'softening' (err..ahem..) towards women, then it's entirely ur problemo sir.. I DEFINITELY dont agree that any kinda bias is made AFA 'giving a chance' or giving a raise kinda thing is concerned.. just imagine, competing in a very fierce corporate environment and having men walking all over you *just* because you are a female!! | ||
| W-bug January 14, 2004 02:54 PM PST PS Ranjan, no hate vibes from this corner at all :) Linked you to my blog, and thanks for the return good deed of the day! | ||
| Ranjan January 14, 2004 01:57 PM PST Cypress, thanks for standing by me when i'm getting hate vibes all over ;) ... and yeah, it was a tad sad (for me) that you ALREADY had a date :) | ||
| Lone Cypress January 14, 2004 01:50 PM PST Ranjan, lemme be the bitch here, and applaud you and say you are right. At workplace, in B-school, we fight for equal rights, but truth be told, we don't have equal rights, we have it easier and better! A woman's coy flirtatious smile will open a thousand doors when the same male colleague would have had no luck! Interviews - same shit, be it B-school interviews or job interviews! I'd rather be known for my brains than my legs! ;) Unfortunately most of the women-folk would like the best of both worlds - to be treated as a woman when it suits them, at other times, they crave "equality". Hypocrisy I tell you. And I have seen this so many times over with female colleagues that I fail to understand the bra-burning stance when in all honesty, women STILL expect a man to fucking get up and give them their chair in a crowded room! Very non-egalitarian, I must say. I am all for equality and I must say that I do what I say - I have changed oil, fixed carburettors, mowed lawns, shovelled snow in sub-zero temps from my driveway, and all the stupid shit one has to do in the US! All I ask is treat us equally in every which way - I do not NEED special favors - I never stand in the women's queue anywhere! Male soul in a female body, haha! So take my word for it - you aren't an MCP - and it was truly nice meeting you last night! Wish we had more time, but I was busy running off to my date! :) | ||
| Ranjan January 14, 2004 10:37 AM PST W-bug! Not at all, it was a pleasure (and do not think I'm hitting on you when I say it was a 'pleasure'!!!)... but seriously, its ok, I respect your views... bring on those debates!! | ||
| W-bug January 14, 2004 09:03 AM PST That is the most MCP thing I have ever heard :) If you go by the FACTS of the matter, women are 25% underpaid than men. This may or may not be the matter at your company but this is true on the whole. If women are doing well at your company its probably because of its requirement for an aggressive female staff that works in their favour, but otherwise, most jobs in the world are still held by men. And it is precisely the 'mini-skirted babe' image that leads to sexual harrassment at workplaces and you don't know how bad it is because being a man, you haven't seen an introverted girl's point of view: not a single day goes by when we're not 'hit on' at work or anywhere else. So they DO have to 'overcome so many odds' and it is their right that they should be paid for it! If they rise faster and higher than men, its because they ARE more efficient and better at multi-tasking due to centuries of doing it at home. Ok now you're going to regret meeting me :) I love debating so be prepared. And my core competency is women's issues :D Hehehehe | ||
| Ranjan January 13, 2004 02:12 PM PST Alka/ Whinymisswhine, if you look closely, this post is in response to an article (hyperlinked to "THIS").. i am not a prude and do not grudge women betterment, its only that i cant stand fools who gripe about the supposed maltreatment of women at the workplace...the referred article is one such... | ||
| Zap January 13, 2004 09:50 AM PST There are no universal truths when you voice ur opinion on such topics. Companies most often hire inDuhviduals, not men or women.:) But i;m completely nostalgic abt Day Zero hiring all over again now that u mention it. Got here thru Buggie's blog.. | ||
| WhinyMissWineE January 13, 2004 04:25 AM PST Whoa Ranjan!!! That was a tough one ... As a woman who also works, Id be aiming rather low if I wanted to just equate myself with my 'male' colleagues... nonetheless, I dont think I would mind if I used my gender to my advantage! Maybe thats 'unethical' but hell, I know my absolutely adorable male coworker gets his job done by the various swooning girls only too eager to do it for him! So yea gender inequalities work both ways! I wouldnt mind seeing u in a mini skirt either!!!! | ||
| Alka January 13, 2004 02:11 AM PST Can I make a request? Please don’t generalize. Maybe for certain women it is easy upto whatever level. But not for all the women. If you don’t know how to be vulnerable and use your feminine qualities then it’s not only tough but to an extent your male counterparts / bosses are quite hostile. | ||
