The die is cast

I am already tempted to say "I told you so" but I will hold myself back as it is bad form to do so.

The markets have spoken. They do not trust this government which is yet to be formed. But like that suave buffoon Sitaram Yechury (who has won just one election - in JNU) said only 1% of Indians participate in the stock market (inaccurate... at least 40% do, in shares, mutual funds and insurance policies). Remember, the market does not only benefit those who buy shares, it brings in funds that are put in projects that bring in employment to millions.

The dramatis personae are busy carving out their pounds of flesh even before the government has been constituted. The idiotic Laloo wants Deputy PM-ship and the Home Ministry, the broker Amar Singh wants Civil Aviation, the wily Sharad Pawar wants Defence, the opportunistic TRS, DMK and commies want to stay out so that they can squeeze the system without an iota of responsibility.

It does not augur well for India. But then, these are weird times.

Even sensible educated Indians have fallen into the trap of so-called secularism. They say "Great, we have voted out Vajpayee because his party kept mute during the Gujarat riots" while they do not remember anymore that two of the ringleaders of the gory massacre of Sikhs in 1984 are "honourable MPs of a 'secular' party". Ever heard of throwing the baby out with the bathwater? They say "Vajpayee's 'feel-good' was a non-starter" while they forget that the party that coined "Garibi hatao" in the seventies had done precious little to remove poverty.

I am willing to double the bet that this government won't celebrate its birthday... any takers?

oh!! so you are back finally!!

as expected.. ur blog is choc-a-bloc full with the current political scenario..

my take- this govt will stay beyond a year.. even though I voted for BJP, I think there are a lot of things these ppl can also do, unless BJP uses their typical manipulations..

Ranjan, read this in Asian Age -
"Did Kalam read Sonia Citizenship Act at noon?"

and i fail to realise the irony of the fact that people would actually wish/root/pray for the failure of a goverment...

our prayers could be better utilised wishing for better governance and sensible politics and the fact that all those young blood turn out good...

another round at Flame's and i am on dude...

btw, regarding that precious little observation of yours "ringleaders of the gory massacre of Sikhs in 1984'... what would you say if I were to tell you that more than the congress, the sikhs in my area (i will not speak by and large) were hacked to death by the local BJP and Shiv Sena mobilised crowds?.. no, this is not another far-fetched conspiravy theory... i speak from my parent's experience and what they witnessed...

BJP has already merrily jumped on the proverbial axe (to stretch a saying) by going all guns blazing against sonia gandhi.... ranjan, she is not even an issue.. why are we all giving her more importance than required? she has played the masterstroke of her political life, by far... lets see if the ball lands in the BJP's court or crashes through the goal post...

i am not a political analyst, or even half as interested as you guys seem to be... i was impressed by your thorough knowledge... if I had that kind of an observation and cognition, and going by my gut feelings, i might've even raised my stake to '5 years at power'... but lets take 'em years one at a time as they come.. right?

I am not sure if I want to bet with you here without judging this government's performance.

I'll treat you anyway for the fact that the NDA government is not celebrating another birthday in power :)

Hi Ranjan. You are going a bit overboard, a trifle prematurely. The youngsters(hopefully) will prevail on Ms. SG's common sense and ensure a balance, as far as portfolio allocation. The Congress party has just been given a lease of life and they are certain not to screw it up so early. I'm willing to bet that this govt. will hold for a year; unless, Atal & Co pull the rug, by sheer manipulation!!!

Ranjan, none of us knew about Ayodhya or Ram temple or anything. This person, thinking himself to be too smart, Rajeev Gandhi opened the lock of the temple and conducted Bhoomi Poojan. This person was responsible for the revival of the dead issue of Ram Temple. He handed over an issue to RSS and VHP. Later on when Ayodhya was happening the same party was in power in center. THEY DID NOTHING TO PREVENT THE DEMOLITION!! They were held captive by RSS goons. I don't know where was Congress party's Paramilitary, BSF, Army....... The country witnessed the unprecendented blood bath. Still they and their supportes have the gall to call this party and themselves a SECULAR party?
I think they are the master of the game. If need arises they would even support Hitler terming him secular. They will stoop to any level ( remeber 1998 toppling of govt. by one vote, then refusal of ALL THE SECULAR PARTIES to form a govt?) to remain in power.

We ( read secularists, non secularists, psuedo secularists, indians, foreign born indians, hindus, muslims, christians, jews and everybody else) will HOLD.
I raise you a 'hot choc fudge' at Nirula that this govt will hold for a year.
