Time to introspect?

I got some good insight into my behaviour recently in the form of some "positive feedback" (an euphemism for criticism). Apparently I have a knack for rubbing people the wrong way, and I offend the sensibilities of many sensible people.

True I have very strong opinions on several issues and I voice those opinions frequently. I don't know where this comes from but I just enjoy stimulating discussions. I can't imagine a relationship where I just HAVE TO AGREE on everything with the other person.

People have different backgrounds and different experiences, and what we are is the sum total of what we have gone through. For me its important to know what others think of and to let them know what I think of. This is the kind of social intercourse that challenges me and (I think) makes me evolve.

In the process if I offend someone, tough luck.

I personally find books like "How to win friends and influence people" teaching how to suckup to a person. I both think extremes should be avoided.

Think again! Are you really evolving?

I agree with Ravages. If somebody cannot tolerate to hear an opinion slightly or radically different from theirs, then they need to keep shut!!! If they can't take in a healthy bout of discussion......too bad..they can go and hang themselves upside down! so chill....

Hi! That's not an issue at all. I don't think one needs to apologise or be apologetic just because the other person doesnt have the sensbility to see you dont intentionally brush them off. Also, I wouldnt care too much of what others think of me. Half the time, they arent being truthful. And the other half, they are thinking all the wrong things about me. So why care?

No worry....I bet there are more like u in this world and some of them will probably be able to look beyond the offence that your strong opinions might generate!!

Though I must say that positive feedback is not really an euphemism for criticism ~ it might be ~ but its not really supposed to be!! take care!! :-)

I am still :-))))

And the reason I am amused is that I have spent my entire life trying NOT to offend anyone, and if that means EVOLVING myself to CHANGE my opinions, I do that too. But that also is the reason why I thoroughly enjoy the company of people who are opposite to me in that respect. So :-)))))))

O exalted one, I am not sure that I agree with the last sentence. Granted that we should not go out of our way to piss people off. However, in case we do so inadvertently, I think we owe it to ourselves to make the other person feel better. And let me tell you, I say this not for any altruistic reason. My motivation is very selfish. We feel far better when we forgive or when we seek forgiveness. We feel worse when we offend. We regress when we offend. We mature (or as you say, evolve) when we forgive. Try it some time, Sir.

So...who was it this time around??? Just kidding!!!! BTW, I think that each man his entitled to his/her opinion and fruitful delibrations/discussions on relevant/irrelevant topics are just ways of socially communicating. Nothing wrong with that!

And in the procees if u have rubbed someone the wrong way...who cares...!!! its ia a metter of perspective in anycase, is it not?

I love the fact that you voice your opinions as and when you can - that way I don't have to guess about where you stand or don't stand...
totally agree about the evolving part...

then again are you? ;) ( JUST KIDDING!!!!)
