She is an upright woman who would not like me to mention her name in this context, so let me call her X.
X's was one of the first blogs I got hooked on to, partially because she had a very catchy name for the blog. And I was intrigued to find that she used her real name on it. This I thought took real courage and I wondered whether she would manage to be truly forthright on it.
Sure enough, she changed her blog identity after a while (most certainly prompted by some negative experiences she would have had). She chose a nom de plume that suited her to the T. I would check her posts whenever I could find time and I was seldom disappointed....she was vitriolic yet fun, simple yet classy, sometimes a pain-in-the-butt yet mostly entertaining.
Couple of days back her page simply vanished...
I SMS-ed her today, and this is what she wrote back: "I don't plan to (be back) - I'm sick of being misunderstood, misinterpreted and being treated as an extension of my blog". A loss for many who loved to read her.
Does anyone remember Raj Kapoor and his kasam1 in the film "Teesri Kasam"? So, here is my first kasam for every blogger: Do not reveal you true identity on your blog; unless you want your blog to be like a newspaper and not a diary.
X, will miss you pal... and hope you start writing again, under an alias.
1 Kasam: Hindi noun, has no exact equal in English but loosely means "oath".

And maybe you should check with people before posting what they thought was a private SMS? See, this is not the first time that you or any other blogger has made public what I assumed was private. As I said, I'm sick of it all. I never said that me finding stuff stupid was anyone else's problem but my own. I just mentioned reasons why I stopped blogging. Anyway, this is the last comment here or anywhere.

Melo, I like you and I know that you must be hurt... so I'll refrain from responding to some parts of your comment. But two points beg response. One, maybe you want to try and see the motives of people before you are caustic? And, two, its YOUR problem if you think "mutual back-slapping and camraderie (is) plain stupid"... everyone is entitled to like another just as much as everyone is entitled to hate... hope you come back to read this, at least.

Actually this post is partly the reason why I stopped blogging. Considering the fact that you did not check with me whether or not you could make public a SMS I sent you, I am glad I stopped blogging. I understand that you guys enjoyed reading my blog, but I noticed that most bloggers, especially the ones I met in person (big mistake!) could never understand or appreciate the fine line between lack of privacy and the need for openness. Apart from that I find the mutual back-slapping and camraderie plain stupid, especially because it is superficial. My life was being meddled in with an ex-blogger who used my blogs to keep a tab on my life and that was the primary reason I stopped blogging. I dont care for the readership my blog had and in all probability will never revive my blog. As for the idiots who think that the new melodrama blog is mine, I'm amazed at your stupidity. I didnt want to comment, but I couldnt stomach stupidity any longer. At any rate this would be the last time I'm commenting or even bothering to read Indian blogs.

Yeah, Me too reading her from the begining.
Good Kasam. Do Not reveal own identity. But sometimes we feel like to reveal it. Want to share but it the end it creates prob or unwanted question/comments only.
BTW what was Rajkapoor's Kasam in Teeshri Kasam?

Yea I can imagine the fall out of publishing ur real name on your blog. In fact a friend and I were discussing the delhiblogmeet and we were thinking 'what is the whole point of being anonymous on your blog and then going and meeting everyone and revealing your true id!! You'll have to be very careful what you write on ur blog after that!!' LOL

i agree, one of the more lively and interesting blogs has ended, real pity that, but the point she makes abt being treated as an extension of her blog - is an interesting one.
